We had a Halloween party for the kids on our block on the day before Halloween (All Hallow's Eve Eve, you might say). We had decorative gourds and jello eyeballs on the table...

...and kids in costumes.



After most everyone had arrived, we went to each others' houses to trick or treat.

We often get the boys one kid's meal to split, and they don't always even finish that. But when the meal is a dessert crepe, they not only can each finish a kid's meal, but we have to get them one more to split between them! Soren's plate had a chocolate path that led straight to his mouth. The path continued right up his chin, too!

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...

I've had this beautiful chestnut pan for several years, but only just tried actually using it tonight.


It managed to get about 6 ounces of chestnuts on it.


Roasted them (after cutting bits off to allow steam to escape) 5-10 minutes over the open (gas) fire.


The boys didn't care much for the charred bits, but I loved the flavor. Reminded me of chestnuts you can get on the street in Seoul or New York.

I guest lectured a class at Boalt Hall last night. As I walked into my old law school, the clouds looked magnificent.
