Soren

I ordered some interlocking foam mats to put on the basement floor, but for the moment have set them up in the front room. Soren seems to like them a lot.

Here he is trying out his best coy look...

...but he couldn't hold that pose for very long.

In this one, I think he's trying to tell me about the cool noise the mats make when you scratch them.

Now he's introducing me to one of his favorite rattles.

And in this one, I think he's trying a variation on Dustin Hoffman's "hey, I'm walkin' here!" line in Midnight Cowboy.

Stand, the movie

I keep forgetting when I have videos to accompany pics.

Here's Stand, the movie.

Getting ready to crawl?

After many months showing little interest in anything that seemed related to crawling, Soren now is doing some pre-crawl exercises.

UPDATE: here's a photo of Anders at about the same age:

Peacock

Trips to Russian River usually involve a puzzle or two. This time, Sigrid brought the peacock puzzle that she started, but never finished, shortly before Anders was born.

Here it is, after many days of work, and with just one more day left in the vacation. Things were not looking good.

But with a late burst of activity...

Kayak

We bought a life jacket for Anders, which meant he got to go kayaking with Sigrid.

Ok, now you can see it.

And there are actually two teeth now.

School!

Anders's first day at the Little Bear School has finally arrived!

Surprisingly, Anders agreed to try on his backpack. It fits quite nicely.

We decided to make this trip to school a family affair.

Anders was mostly in a good mood, but there may have been a bit of anxiety.

Not too much, though.

Doesn't he look like a big boy?

It's time!

Just taking care of a little business here in the Little Bear bathroom before the school day starts.

Anders looked a bit worried to me, but I suppose he was just taking in the scene.

We played a little bit, and then I told him that Mama would pick him up after lunch, and asked if he'd be ok on his own. In a very hushed voice, he told me he'd be ok.

And so we left. Sigrid and I were so distraught that we had to... well, we had to go have some brunch without the distraction of a toddler running around.

Cute, cute, cute...

...Soren is so cute!

(Sing the title and the line above to the tune of Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust." Sigrid's been on a Queen kick for a while, and customized the lyrics to fit our lives.)

Preschool orientation

Sigrid and I went to parents' night at Little Bear, where Anders will be starting preschool in just a few days. They have a cubby set up for him and everything!

Tooth

This is a picture of Soren's first tooth!

Ok, it's not. Have you ever tried to take a picture of a 6-month-old's first tooth? It's basically impossible. But I swear there's a tooth there. Bottom-right-front tooth.
