Wild Kratts Live!

After a two-month wait, it was finally time for Wild Kratts Live!

Waiting for the show to start.

They're here!

Martin! Chris!

Activate... Caracal Power! (Good job, Chris!)

We saw them use a lot more creature powers, too. And with our help, Chris and Martin defeated the Zachbots and got their miniaturizer back!

robot

Anders and his friends want to build a robot. One of them is drawing up a blueprint. Anders is putting together a shopping list. It's a work in progress, but here's what Anders has on his list so far:

With a bit of regularizing, here's what it says:

8 springs
1 digital camera
4 batteries
16 wires
1 switch
1 board of wood
2 battery packs
2 security cameras
19 nails
1 hammer
1 1/4-inch cylinder mold
1 box
1 iron square that's flat
1 blow torch

Let me repeat that last item: one blow torch.

second passport photo...

...with a little bit of a reminder of Soren's first passport.

Royal Hawaiian Featherwork: Nā Hulu Ali‘i

Grammy and Sigrid took Anders for his first visit to the de Young museum.

They went for a special exhibition, which was the first exhibition of Hawaiian featherwork on the U.S. mainland. Anders and Grammy also got to make their own feather artwork.

Chinese Acrobats

We went off to Berkeley for a show. Because it was also a home game for Cal (Go Bears! 35-7!), we decided to take BART. We think this was Soren's first BART ride. I love how Anders is holding Soren here as the train arrives.

We went to see the National Circus and Acrobats of the People's Republic of China, which is one of the longest running acrobatics troupes in China.

(If you want to see a bit of what the show was like, there's a promotional video on YouTube.)

date night

Sigrid and I went out for Korean food while the boys enjoyed a night of fun at Frog Hall, the Tree Frog Treks HQ.

(Coincidental trick shot, with kids appearing in a reflection on the right side of the picture.)

Feeling Crabby

Sigrid and Anders went to a crabbing workshop at Fort Baker Pier in Sausalito.

Ranger Al (walking away in this pic) led the workshop.

Workshop attendees could take home keepers. Red crabs, like this one, had to be male and over 4 inches.

Bear scored the largest catch of the morning.

Some other people were fishing off the pier.

Anders and Sigrid brought home three red crabs that were all just big enough to be keepers.

They cooked up nicely.

And, wow, were they tasty!

Discovery Museum

While Sigrid and Anders went crabbing, Soren and I went to the Discovery Museum.

A passing mother dubbed this the sleepy lion pose.

At first I thought this said "Loki's Lookout," which would have been fantastic.

Soren had the "Do Re For Me" sandwich at the cafe.

Bird Footprints

By Soren.

(I told him I liked the heart in the background, but Soren told me, "that's just a tornado.")

Lazy Friday?

With a return to school comes the return of books checked out from the school library! This morning, Anders was reading to Soren from The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book.
