MLK Day weekend

Our annual trip to Tahoe for the extended MLK Day weekend.

Games were played.

On Sunday (and Monday), the big kids took ski lessons and then went skiing with Sigrid and Jean.

Soren continues to refuse to try skiing (but eventually promised he'd try it next year). Cari and I took him sledding.

(Ok, maybe not on that sled.)

We started off by queuing up to take a tube ride. This was a very, very long wait, but Soren weathered it well enough.

It's hard to tell what the tube ride was like from this video, but Soren and I rode down in side-by-side tubes connected with a tether.

Tubing was fun, but not worth the wait. So Soren switched to the sled hill, which didn't require any waiting.

I might have bundled him up too much. By the end, he had taken his mittens and jacket off.

Afterward, Soren and I soaked in the hot tub. This involved me walking barefoot in the snow to get the top off of the tub, and then the tub itself was really more of a warm tub, because the heater couldn't keep the water above 98°F. But the lower temp made it easy to stay in the tub a long time.

The next day, Sigrid stayed with Soren while the big kids skied, and I went cross-country skiing (my first ever time) with Cari.

On Tuesday morning, the kids went sledding next to the house. Sigrid joined in, too.

Late morning, Sigrid, Jean and the big kids went skiing for a few runs. With most everyone else gone already, the slopes were blissfully free of crowds...

...and the weather was gorgeous.

Here's one of Anders's runs down the mountain. In the first half of this video, he's the tiny, bottom dot, which veers off to the right and waits. In the second half, you see him finish the run, and then Sigrid brings up the rear.

Until 2018!
