For Haraboji's birthday, we had the extended family over for a samgyeopsal dinner—grilled uncured pork belly, dipped in salted sesame oil, and wrapped in lettuce with rice, green onion salad, and perhaps raw garlic and ssamjang. It's best eaten hot off the grill, so I bought a portable butane burner and a grill plate at KukJe Market in Daly City. That's also where I got the sliced pork belly, the pre-shredded green onion, and a variety of banchan.

I don't know that we'll have this dinner often (buying five pounds of pork belly should probably be a rarity), but the butane burner worked really well! If nothing else, we can take it camping.

Happy birthday, Dad!
